Santa Teresa Gallura

The sea is the indisputable protagonist of Santa Teresa Gallura, a village of about five thousand inhabitants, which in summer are multiplied by the arrival of tens of thousands of tourists who animate it amongst appetizers in trendy venues and live music.

Vittorio Emanuele I of Savoia founded it in 1808, renaming with the name of his wife Maria Teresa a place known as Longosardo (or Longone), a privileged window to the Bonifacioo cliffs.

The village follows the sinuous development of two coves. To the east of Porto Longone, where the marina rises, to the west the bay of Rena Bianca, expanse of fine sand in dazzling colors, a few steps from the main square of the village. Its limpid waters with a thousand shades, often rewarded with the 'Blue Flag'.

It is controlled from above by the impressive tower of Longosardo, built by the will of Philip II of Spain.

Around the village there are other charming beaches, you can visit one or more of them daily: the wide and equipped La Marmorata, the picturesque Cala Sambuco, the suggestive Cala Balcaccia and Santa Reparata, which will strike you on clear sea and rocky cliffs, perfect for diving

Going west you will find the headland of Capo Testa, the northern tip of the island.

Along the isthmus that connects the peninsula-headland to the mainland, two beautiful beaches stretch out: Rena of Ponente and Rena of Levante.

With any wind condition, enjoy the calm sea by attending one or the other. From the western beach you reach Capicciolu (or Colomba Ace Beach), made of golden grains.

Here (perhaps) stood the ancient Tibula (and its port), a starting point for ships loaded with granite, used to adorn the palaces of ancient Rome

In the western part of the head, stands the spectacle of Cala Lunga - Valley of the Moon, symbol of Santa Teresa: between granite walls, shaped by nature, emerge hidden coves.

It is the magical scenery of the Music Bouquet Festival, even more spectacular if illuminated by lunar flare.

While in Palau you will find the granite pools of the Erica Valley, the long Porto-Liscia-Sciumara, the home of the surf, and the enchanting peace of the Green Conca. In a romantic pine forest three kilometers from the village, the copper-coated dome of the Buoncammino church rises in the early 20th century on a medieval building.

Do not miss the Ferrero Battery, the ruins of World War II fortifications with artillery, bunker, barracks and mines.

The most interesting archaeological complexes are nuragic: Lu Brandali and Sa Testa.
